“Supporting Our Sisters” is all about the dignity of women and a transformation from ignorance to education

As Muslim Charity’s 7-City UK Tour entitled, “Supporting Our Sisters” kicked off last night in Rochdale, we are humbled to present to you some of the glimpses of Muslim Charity’s efforts of the journey from ignorance to education and from poverty to empowerment, towards the education of girls and creation of economic opportunities for women. Indeed, this could only be achieved through your donations and duas.

Whether there is a war in Syria, Central African Republic, people are affected by Typhoon Hayan in Philippines, victims of ethnic cleansing in Burma/Myanmar or facing wide spread poverty in developing countries, women are amongst the most vulnerable in the developing and poor countries. Muslim Charity helps in saving lives during disasters and also works to transform lives of girls and women through creating income generation and educational opportunities through the inspiration we receive from Islamic values. We make efforts to adopt a holistic approach beginning from renovation/building of schools to providing skills development trainings as per need and requirements of the communities. We request for your continuous support and prayers to help our sisters in ending the vicious circle of violence and poverty.

The journey from ignorance to education

The girls from, Nassrullah Sand, Tharparkar, Pakistan, had to sit on the sand for their right of education. It could hardly be called a school without any boundary walls, roof, toilets, running water, furniture, uniform, school bags and stationery. Poverty stricken and drought affected, the households were struggling for food let alone a fully constructed school. The 58 girls at school age were out of school because the parents were afraid of snake bits, amongst many other reasons.

The journey from poverty to education

Through the generous support of our UK donors, and in this case Asian Sound Radio (Manchester) in particular, the transformation of studying on the sand under the blazing sun to classrooms with furniture, running water, books and uniforms took place. Thousands of girls across Pakistan are now enjoying their right to education and are thankful for your valuable support.
Alhamdulillah, Muslim Charity could only achieve these results with the support of our friends and donors.

The journey from poverty to empowerment

Unfortunately, poverty has a female face due to a lack of income generation activities. 70% of the world’s poor are women. Although in rural areas most of the work in field is performed by women but due to injustice and a lack of education they do not enjoy prosperity. Most of these vulnerable women have no access to basic health facilities or other services.

The journey from poverty to empowerment

Muslim Charity does not only provide vocational training but also literacy classes to the vulnerable in rural communities. Providing skills and literacy coupled with equipment to use the learnt skills can always bring an income to a home.
“I will use the money to educate my children, improve my living and have some saving for my family.”
Nehmat Bibi, Tharparkar Pakistan.

The journey from poverty to empowerment

Due to limited opportunities in the rural areas, families move to cities and without skills fall into poverty, compelling women to beg on streets.
Dignity and respect of women is central to our faith but unfortunately many of them are compelled to beg due to poverty and misfortunes in their lives.

The journey from poverty to empowerment

To address the vulnerability of women in the urban areas, Muslim Charity establishes training centres and builds linkages to the job market to generate income with dignity and to help in providing education and better health services for children.

The journey from street to shelter

Being a street child is harsh and being a girl and a street child is even worse. Subject to exploitation, violence and other types of cruelties is routine for these girls on the street of Dhaka like many other big cities in developing countries.

The journey from street to shelter

Muslim Charity through your support is helping these street girls along with boys to provide shelter in Dhaka. “SETU is the name of a shelter because it is a bridge between street and home because we integrate these children back to families or bring them in permanent housing. They are provided food, education and health along with a roof.” Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh Coordinator for Muslim Charity.
