SUPPORT CATARACT
SURGERIES

More than 1 in 4 people worldwide have some form of vision impairment, requiring glasses.

39 million people are blind, and over 285 million people have a severe form of vision impairment. For those living in poverty, blindness is isolating, frightening and has huge ramifications for employment, income and the family’s ability to eat well and flourish. These statistics are horrifying and worrying, even though 75% of all blindness is actually curable, and relies on good eye healthcare.

One main cause of blindness is cataracts, which is the formation of cloudy patches on the lens of your eye, which blur vision. If left untreated, cataracts can result in complete loss of sight. The good news is that cataracts are easily treatable, and can be addressed as soon as vision begins to become blurry. If detected early and treated, it can completely prevent blindness.

However, for millions of people living in poverty around the world, their lack of access to quality and free eyecare means that even if they realise their eyesight is worsening, they have no way of getting the support they need to treat it. Often, the cataract worsens and the person ends up blind with no way of tackling their blindness.

Thankfully, even if cataracts lead to total blindness, eyesight can be restored with a simple procedure, which replaces the clouded lens with a new one, enabling the person to see again. This is why we are using your donations of Zakat for cataract surgeries, helping people to see again.

HOW YOUR DONATIONS
CAN HELP

At Muslim Charity, we are working in impoverished communities to give the gift of sight to people who are living with blindness. We know that a simple cataract surgery can restore sight and help uplift communities, tackling poverty. This is why we work with hospitals and ensure that people in need have access to the life-changing surgeries to restore their sight. We are supporting quality cataract surgeries to people across Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Your donation for cataract surgeries in Pakistan and Bangladesh are truly helping lives with hope, light and a chance at a brighter future. When we restore sight, we help create opportunities for people to work again, building livelihoods and streams of income. This means families can thrive, by eating well, wearing good clothes, living in good homes and accessing the best education and healthcare they can. Living in darkness can make people feel isolated and alone, causing mental health and wellbeing to completely crash.

You can support a cataract surgery for just £40, helping to boost entire communities.

Since 2019 we have provided 520 cataract surgeries in Pakistan in District Bhakkar and Karachi, Sindh. In the past year, we have also completed 155 cataract surgeries in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Your donation for cataract surgeries in Pakistan and Bangladesh will make lasting change for vulnerable communities, helping to reduce suffering and struggle. Giving the gift of sight to someone in need is one of the greatest things you could do.
