1 in every 3 people around the world do not have clean water to drink. Millions are forced to drink dirty, unsafe water that could kill them, and is spreading deadly diseases among vulnerable communities. Women and children are forced to walk miles each day on dangerous terrain to fetch clean water, when they should be at home, at school, thriving and content. In 2016, UNICEF estimated that 200 million hours a day are spent by women and girls around the world just collecting water.


A water donation is one of the greatest things you can do with your charity this Ramadan.

At Muslim Charity, our water projects are designed to provide clean water to vulnerable and impoverished communities, for years to come. We seek to provide long-term solutions to water scarcity in a world that is increasingly affected by water scarcity and climate change. With your water donation, we strive to promote health and safety with fresh water supplies, and stop women and children having to walk for miles each day to collect water, by building hand pumps.

We also promote hygiene and raise awareness about sanitation and staying healthy within communities by working closely with the communities we are serving.

Clean water means people always have water to wash their hands and themselves, as well as kitchen utensils when cooking, helping to stop the spread of disease and illness. The risks of Covid-19 and other diseases could somewhat be managed with the ability to wash hands and sanitise. Each water donation provides water to families for drinking, washing, cleaning and cooking.

With your water donation, children from remote regions who would usually spend the day searching for water are now able to attend school seeking knowledge and developing, moving closer to fulfilling their dreams. Mothers are united with their families who would typically walk for miles every day in search of water. All of whom are now protected from water-borne diseases which is the root problem for majority of all illnesses in the third world countries. Your water donation truly helps saves lives and transforms communities.

With a water pump donation of just £150, we can completely revolutionise the way countless people in poverty are currently having to live their lives. By installing a simple water hand pump close to their home, those many hours a day spent walking miles just for clean water are significantly reduced and they can focus on improving their family income and wellbeing. As the family have access to clean water, there is a significant reduction in the risk of disease and contamination. Every water donation means people are healthier for longer, and that families are less worried about heavy medical bills.

A hand pump is a small but efficient mechanism which can support a household or a small communal area with access to clean drinking water. Currently we are supporting the installation of water hand pumps in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hand pumps provide households with as much water as they need each day for drinking, cleaning and cooking.

Last year, we installed 5,812 hand pumps. From all hand pumps installed by Muslim Charity to date, we are helping 688,475 people every single year.

Upon completion of a water hand pumps, donors receive a personalised hand pump certificate which includes a picture of their sponsored hand pump benefiting the local community as well as the location of where it has been installed.

Your water donation of a hand pumps can also be done in the name of somebody else or in memory of a loved one who has passed away. This varies from location to location e.g. if we install it in the home of a needy family then the number of people will be 5-7 (depending on the size of a family) but if we install it in a communal area then the numbers of people will be far greater.

Yes, we will send you a copy of your personalised hand pump certificate which shall include a picture of your hand pump benefiting the local community as well as the exact address where it has been installed.

This depends on how well the hand pump has been maintained and looked after. If well maintained, the hand pump can typically last 7 years or more.

Yes, and this is an excellent Sadaqah Jariyah too. Prophet Muhammad (saw) advised that giving water is the best charity. With each hand pump we install there is space for you to put a name on the plaque (maximum 25 characters) and you can put the name of a loved one on it if you wish.
