Thousands killed and injured after powerful earthquake devastates Afghanistan

On 31st August 2025, a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, devastating the provinces of Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar and Nuristan.

Entire villages have been flattened, thousands of homes reduced to rubble and countless families left without shelter. The tremor struck in the middle of the night, catching families as they slept and fragile mud and stone houses crumbled instantly, burying people beneath the debris. Survivors now face an unimaginable ordeal as they search for loved ones while surrounded by destruction and grief.

The death toll exceeds 2,200, with over 3,640 injured as more remote areas remain beyond reach. Reaching survivors remains one of the greatest challenges. Landslides and destroyed roads have cut off entire communities, forcing rescue teams to travel on foot while helicopters can only reach limited areas. Hospitals are overwhelmed, supplies are running out and the harsh winter is fast approaching, leaving families exposed to hunger, disease and freezing cold. This tragedy has struck a nation already struggling with drought, food insecurity and displacement, pushing Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis to breaking point.

Muslim Charity is on the ground responding to the recent earthquake in Afghanistan, where entire communities have been devastated. Families have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, as homes, belongings and livelihoods were wiped away in moments.

In partnership with trusted local teams, we are delivering life-saving aid to some of the worst-affected areas. Trucks filled with dry food packs, warm blankets, clothing and household essentials have reached families who are now facing extreme hardship. Many are living in makeshift shelters, uncertain of how they will survive the days ahead. This immediate response is offering not just relief, but reassurance — that they are not alone and that help is reaching them.

These emergency packs are more than just supplies — they are a symbol of solidarity and hope. As families face harsh conditions with limited shelter, access to food, warmth and hygiene is essential. With your continued support, we can reach even more survivors who are still waiting for help.
