Build a Mosque in Pakistan: Mosque Donation Success Story

A mosque is at the heart of a Muslim community, providing a dedicated place for prayer, worship, Islamic education and community gatherings. For communities without access to a mosque, coming together for daily prayers, Friday prayers and religious learning can be challenging.

Following a generous donation towards our Mosque Programme from a UK supporter, Muslim Charity has helped the residents of Village Dirkhan in the Layyah District of Punjab, Pakistan, change their lives for the better.

Previously, the community had no mosque of its own. Residents prayed at home or in open fields and children had no dedicated mosque in which to learn about their faith. Today, the newly built mosque serves nearly 500 people and provides 80 children with a place to recite the Holy Qur’an and learn about Islam.

This success story shows how helping to build a mosque can provide lasting spiritual, educational and social benefits for an entire community.

Support our Mosque Appeal and help provide more communities with a place to worship, learn and come together.

Why Building a Mosque Matters

In Islamic tradition, the mosque is the heart and soul of a community. It is a place where Muslims can strengthen their relationship with Allah, perform the five daily prayers and Friday prayers in congregation and come together in worship.

Mosques also play an important role in Islamic education. Muslim Charity’s Mosque Programme places teaching and learning at the heart of its work, helping to create spaces where children can recite the Holy Qur’an, learn about Islam and develop a stronger connection with their faith.

Beyond worship and education, a mosque can strengthen social ties by providing a shared space for religious events and community gatherings. For communities experiencing poverty, however, finding the resources for mosque construction can be extremely difficult.

Supporting the construction of a mosque can also be a form of Sadaqah Jariyah, or ongoing charity. As worshippers continue to pray and children continue to learn there, the mosque can provide spiritual and social benefits for generations to come.

Layyah Mosque Success Story

The community of Village Dirkhan, in Tehsil and Layyah District, Punjab, Pakistan, has always strived to expose its young people to an Islamic education and instil within them a sense of community.

The village consists of around 70 households. The vast majority of breadwinners are unskilled labourers who work tirelessly to support their families, while women and elderly residents work in the fields to help make ends meet.

For families facing such difficult circumstances, putting food on the table often takes priority. Although parents wanted their children to receive an Islamic education and develop their understanding of Islam, the community had limited resources to make this possible.

They had also never managed to build a mosque.

Residents prayed alone in their homes or in open fields, making it difficult to gather for congregational prayers. There was no dedicated place where children could learn together and the village lacked the focal point for worship and community life that a mosque can provide.

For the people of Village Dirkhan, having a mosque of their own was therefore about more than constructing a building. They wanted a place where they could strengthen their relationship with their faith, pray together and provide their children with opportunities to learn.

With the support of a generous UK donor, Muslim Charity was able to complete the mosque and provide the village with a fully functioning place of worship.

The difference is being felt throughout the community.

The new mosque serves 490 residents, giving men, women and children a dedicated place to worship. The community can now perform its five daily prayers in congregation, while 80 children are reciting the Holy Qur’an and learning about Islam within the mosque.

Muhammad Ibrahim is a 34-year-old farmer and a regular attendee of the newly built mosque. He was eager to express his gratitude towards Muslim Charity and its supporters and explained how it has helped him:

“Our masjid has every facility, I am very happy that I am attending my five times prayer with my full attention… In hot summers the masjid is providing us with shelter and we are now getting pleasure from our prayers under a fine shelter.”

The mosque is also making a difference to the village’s children. Arif, who is 10 years old, and Madni, who is 12, said:

“We are very happy that we have a good masjid; we are learning Holy Qur’an and saying our prayers. We are very happy that we were involved throughout the process of constructing the masjid, now we are getting an education under such a beautiful masjid. Our classmates are also very happy that they are getting an education too. We are very thankful to Muslim Charity and our respectable donors for supporting us and will continue praying for them.”

The impact of the donor’s support can now be seen in everyday village life: in the congregation coming together for prayer, in children learning the Holy Qur’an and in a community that finally has a mosque to call its own.

Help Build More Mosques

There are many more villages like Village Dirkhan across Asia and Africa where communities do not have access to a suitable mosque. There are also many more children like Arif and Madni who want to learn about their faith, recite the Holy Qur’an and receive an Islamic education in a dedicated place.

Through Muslim Charity’s Mosque Programme, supporters can help communities that would otherwise struggle to fund a place of worship themselves.

Supporting our Mosque Appeal can help provide a space for daily and Friday prayers, Islamic education and community gatherings. Each project is an opportunity to give a community something that can become an important part of daily life and continue serving local families for years to come.

Supporters can make a one-off contribution or give regularly towards the programme. Mosques can also be donated on behalf of late loved ones or relatives, providing an opportunity to give Sadaqah Jariyah in their name.

The lasting nature of a mosque makes it a meaningful form of ongoing charity. Each prayer performed, each verse of the Holy Qur’an recited and each child who benefits from Islamic education can contribute to the continuing impact of the project, Insha’Allah.

Donate to build a mosque through Muslim Charity’s Mosque Appeal and help another community gain a lasting centre of prayer, learning and unity.

Conclusion

The newly built mosque in Village Dirkhan demonstrates the lasting difference a mosque donation can make. Nearly 500 people who previously had no mosque of their own now have a dedicated place where they can perform their prayers in congregation, while 80 children have a place to recite the Holy Qur’an and learn about Islam.

The project has brought worship, education and community life together under one roof. With the generosity of our supporters, Muslim Charity can continue helping communities establish mosques that provide spiritual, educational and social benefits for generations to come.
