Junaid Jamshed kicks off 5-day UK tour in aid of orphans around the world

On Saturday 23rd February 2013, the scene was set in the capital and largest city of Wales, Cardiff, for the launch of Muslim Charity’s “5 Days in Aid of 500 Orphans” UK Tour of world renowned Nasheed artist and Muslim Charity’s Vice President, Junaid Jamshed. The tour also features Amjad Hussain and Rizwan Hussain. One thing all three men have in common is that they were all singers in their previous careers. Amjad Hussain was a former folk-singer with internationally acclaimed hits such as “Tera Pakistan, Mera Pakistan”. Following a change in career, Amjad Hussain now recites Hamds and Nasheeds and dedicates a lot of his time and efforts visiting and supporting humanitarian programmes of Muslim Charity. Rizwan Hussain was also a former Hindi music singer who changed his career and is now a leading presenter on Islam Channel and Channel S and, again, spends much time working for humanitarian causes.

Muslim Charity’s “5 Days in Aid of 500 Orphans” UK Tour supports the Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Programme, which supports children in 7 countries around the world. It is one of the oldest running programmes of Muslim Charity and has helped hundreds of children and their families sustain themselves and achieve a better and brighter future of hope and opportunities.

The 5-Day UK Tour began in Cardiff on 23rd February at the picturesque venue of the County Hall sited in the heart of Cardiff Bay where over 250 people turned up to listen to Hamds and Nasheeds and gems of wisdom Junaid Jamshed, who was recently featured in “The Muslim 500″ marking him amongst the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. Junaid Jamshed recited verses from many of his notable Nasheeds such as “Mera Dil Badal De” and “Madina Madina”. He also gave poignant advice and guidance on living in the west as good and practical Muslims and keeping peace in homes and within families.

The attendees were shown a documentary of the impact of Muslim Charity’s OVC Programme and during the fundraising managed to contribute a staggering £33,920 in aid of orphans around the world. One of the key projects that the funds will be going towards is the “Riaz-ul-Karam Academy and Orphanage”, being constructed in the deprived District of Jhang in Pakistan, which will cater for 400 children with an English medium school and will also provide hostel facilities and education to 100 orphans spanning an area of 80 villages.

The next day the tour continues to the City of Nottingham where generous supporters and contributors pledged £34,400 in aid of the OVC Programme. The tour is set to continue to the Slough on 1st March, Blackburn on 2nd March and London on 3rd March.
