SAVE LIVES THIS WINTER

Muslim Charity has launched the Emergency Winter Campaign to save lives. As winter is fast approaching, millions of refugees around the world are in extreme danger of becoming victims of plunging temperatures and hypothermia. In 2017 alone, thousands of refugees living in refugee camps were affected by severe winters and viral diseases took thousands of lives.

According to UNHCR, there are approximately 68.5 million refugees around the world. Out of this number, approximately 40 million are internally displaced people (IDPs). In Syria alone, the number of IDPs is around 6.3 million.

Winter in Syria can be very harsh and include prolonged periods of snow and temperatures below zero. Out of the 6.3 million men, women and children, many have left without adequate clothing and have to stay in make-shift shelters, which leaves them extremely vulnerable to rain, snow and freezing temperatures.

According to WHO, currently there are around 921,000 Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. Out of which 50% are children. Recent floods in Bangladesh have put them in an extremely vulnerable state where they have to sleep on the wet muddy floor with no protection from severity of the weather. With winters coming fast, there is a huge risk of losing lives, especially among children.

Muslim Charity will be distributing Emergency Winter Packs in Syria and Rohingya Refugee camps in Bangladesh. We are calling for assistance from our donors and supporters to enable us to prepare well before the weather gets severe.

In 2017, based on Emergency Needs, we distributed winter food packs in Syria and warmer packs in Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

THIS YEAR, WE WILL BE PROVIDING WARM BLANKETS, WARM CLOTHING FOR CHILDREN AND AT LEAST ONE PAIR OF WINTER SHOES FOR CHILDREN AGED 6 TO 16 AS PART OF OUR WINTER PACK.

WE LOOK FOWARD TO YOUR PARTICIPATION IN SAVING LIVES.
