The rewards of charity
Allah (swt) tells us in the holy Quran:
“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower.” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:261)
This beautiful verse of the Qur’an explains that giving charity is not just a simple act with a simple reward. It is something that has a continuous effect, bringing you reward upon reward.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) deeply encouraged the giving of charity, and Allah (swt) tells us in multiple places of the Qur’an about what a noble and faith-centric act this is. We are also told that:
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Not only is giving charity highly rewarded and a way for us to seek rewards for the next life, but it can bring us blessings and protection in this life too. Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:
“Do not delay giving charity, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Why charity is so important
In Ramadan, there are many ways to seek forgiveness and reap rewards including reading the holy Qur’an, performing additional prayers, making duaa, performing dhikr and volunteering in one’s local community. Giving in charity is a phenomenal way to connect with the ummah at large, and to make a huge difference in the lives of those most vulnerable. It helps us remember how connected our world is, and that we are all the ummah of Prophet Muhammad (saw).
While giving in charity itself is a hugely rewardable act, it is important to remember that it has a huge impact on those who receive it. Giving charity literally saves lives and can transform entire communities. This also means that beautiful reward lies both in the act of giving charity by giving from your own wealth to others, and in the impact you can create.
Allah (swt) tells us:
“And whoever saves a life it is as though he had saved the lives of all of humanity.” (5:32)
Providing clean water, food, shelter, education or livelihood opportunities to those in need goes so far in tackling poverty, and easing suffering, and that’s why our Ramadan Donation Appeal 2024 includes a whole host of life-changing projects you can get involved with.
Our Ramadan Donation Appeal 2024
This Ramadan, we want to come together to make a huge difference around the world, helping to ease the suffering of people in need. Millions of people are living in poverty, struggling to survive, often living without clean water, enough food or access to essential healthcare. We are amid the worst refugee crisis the world has ever seen, as millions upon millions have fled their homes around the world due to war, conflict and persecution. They have often taken dangerous routes to find safety and are living in over-crowded refugee camps that are unsanitary and do not provide the safety and protection they need. The world has witnessed devastating crises recently. Hundreds of thousands, who were already struggling to survive and make ends meet among war and poverty, have lost everything including their homes and livelihoods, while thousands have tragically died.
This Ramadan, support us to continue our life-changing work, providing short-term, emergency help and aid, as well as long-term projects that re-build communities and get to the root causes of poverty. We are committed to helping people become independent, building their own respectable, dignified sources of livelihoods, allowing them to create an income for themselves and their families. In this way, we break cycles and help build a brighter tomorrow for future generations. We’re supporting orphans and vulnerable children with the education they deserve and everything they need for a happy and safe childhood.
You can be a part of our mission and join us to make a huge change this Ramadan. Every penny counts and will go towards changing the life of a person in need.
