Our Sisters’ Stories
Muslim Charity visited a Vocational Training Centre we support in the city of Burao in Somaliland. With the funds raised, we were able to gift the local vulnerable women who had graduated from the vocational training classes, with a sewing machine and a stock of cloth. The aim of this initiative was to enable women, especially widows of war, to utilise their newly developed skills for income generation means.
Sister Khadijah lives in Burao City, Somaliland. After receiving assistance from Muslim Charity and obtaining vocational training she now runs her own business making and selling rugs out of plastic thread. This work enables her to earn a daily profit, which is helping her take care of her family of seven and provide a better future for them. Today, Khadijah does not only sell rugs but is also helping other women to stand strong on their own two feet with hope and dignity; this is sustainable living at its best!
