Numerous young children and infants can now breathe easy and their parents are thanking the generosity of people who donated towards the Little Hearts Campaign to help children with cardiac congenital abnormalities.

The Little Hearts initiative in Bangladesh has been launched by Muslim Charity and other partners to provide free medical assistance, surgery and post-surgical care to children whose parents cannot afford to pay for treatment of congenital heart diseases. In Bangladesh like many other developing countries Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is the most common congenital problem accounting for nearly 25% of all congenital malformations and is the most common type of heart disease among children.

“It may present itself in different ages from birth to adolescence. Most cases are asymptomatic and discovered during routine neonatal check ups. It places a significant economic burden and psychological impact on the affected families and treatment is costly. Most parents cannot afford the treatment for their loved ones,” explained Irfan Rajput, Director of Programmes and Policy at Muslim Charity.

The CHD treatment and surgical interventions have been arranged in the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. “We have children coming from all over Bangladesh and with our combined resources together with the CMH team we can only handle the limited numbers” reported Fazlul Karim, Muslim Charity Coordinator Bangladesh.

Below are some photographs from the Little Hearts Project which were taken at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh, last week. We pray Allah (most high) rewards all the generous donors who contributed towards this campaign and helped save the lives of young children as a result.
