Celebrating World Children Day 2023 in Dhaka, Bangladesh
To mark the auspicious occasion of World Children Day, 20th November 2023, an event of great significance unfolded in Dhaka, Bangladesh, reflecting the compassionate efforts of Muslim Charity and its generous donors. This day marked not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating street children.
A Rally of Solidarity and Awareness
The day’s festivities began with a rally from Dhaka railway station to Hajj camp. Led by students from Apon Foundation school, this rally, adorned with bespoke banners, was a vivid display of unity and awareness for the plight of street children.
Post-Rally Celebrations: A Reflection of Generosity
The Thikana Shelter, supported by Muslim Charity’s donors through our Rescue a Child campaign, became a venue of joy and hope as a local guardian celebrated their son’s birthday by sharing food and cakes with the children at the shelter. This generous act highlighted the impact of individual contributions in supporting vital projects like the Transitional Shelter for Street Children (TSSC).
Impact of Muslim Charity and Its Donors
Thanks to the generous contributions of Muslim Charity’s donors, significant strides have been made in transforming the lives of street children. With over 3,624 children rescued overall and more than 5,436 children utilising our Dhaka shelter last year, the impact is tangible. Our donors have played a crucial role in enabling these children to escape the perils of street life, which includes exploitation, abuse and lack of basic rights to education, health and protection.
Enhancing Shelter Security and Empowerment
With the support of our donors, the Thikana Shelter has enhanced security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, ensuring a safer environment for the children. Moreover, a prominent complaints mechanism chart has been established, empowering children to voice their concerns and ensuring their rights are upheld.
A Commitment to Long-Term Welfare
The efforts of Muslim Charity, bolstered by the generosity of our donors, exemplify a holistic approach to child welfare. This encompasses not only immediate rescue and shelter but also long-term care, education and reintegration with families where possible, ensuring a brighter future for these children.
As we reflect on this World Children Day celebration, it is clear that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – a step taken by Muslim Charity and each of its donors towards creating a world where every child is safe, educated, and cherished.
