[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]“And have you seen the water that you drink? Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?” [Qur’an 56: 68-70]

Water is such a crucial part of our existence and yet we take it for granted. As Muslims, it is important to acknowledge water as one of the immense mercies of Allah (most high) that has been bestowed upon us. Using the blessings of water as a source of growth, sustenance and purification, we are required to perform wudhu (ablution) using water before prayer throughout the day. With descriptions of paradise mentioning adorned gardens wherein rivers flow, we know that water will also benefit us in the afterlife, thus reinforcing its importance to mankind.

Today, millions of people lack access to clean drinking water, half of the children born in the developing world will live in households without access to improved water and sanitation, which is causing the death of millions of people. Half of the children born in the developing world will live in households without access to improved water and sanitation facilities as a result of which 1.5 million children under the age of five die each year due to diarrhoeal diseases alone.

Over one million people have benefited from access to clean water, today thousands of children are going to school because they are no longer ill, women have more time and are healthier because they do not have to carry water from far-away areas like Tharparker in Pakistan, Bangladesh and many parts of Africa due to the Sadaqah-e-Jariyah and donations from British Muslims. There are millions in need of water around the world and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave us a poignant example by saying:

“The Muslim Ummah is like one body. If the eye is in pain then the whole body is in pain and if the head is in pain then the whole body is in pain.” (Sahih Muslim)

This Ramadan, please donate generously towards Muslim Charity’s Safe Water Programme, your Sadaqah and Zakat donations will be highly appreciated
