Yemen Emergency

5 years of devastating war; now the country could be wiped off the map.

Yemen needs immediate attention and here is why

After six years of war in Yemen, it looks like the world’s worst humanitarian crisis is being forgotten and treated with indifference. The international community is overstretched with many crises, and Yemen seems far from the highest priority.

Today, 24 million Yemeni citizens depend partially or totally on international or regional assistance. Yemen’s economy depends on money from aid agencies, such as the Saudi deposit in the Central Bank of Yemen and expat remittances, but the resources are depleting. That grim picture is tied to the government’s inability to operate from Yemen, serve the people, and mitigate the drastic impact of the war by contributing to salary payments.

The first wave of coronavirus hit Yemen hard. By 17 September, the official number of coronavirus infections in the country was 2,023 (WHO), but the actual number is believed to be far higher.

Nearly 29 per cent of the detected cases have led to death, which is many times the current global average. A large number of Yemenis know too little about the coronavirus and how to protect themselves from it, and a variety of beliefs are associated with the illness.

In the past few months, the power has dropped out daily and high fuel prices mean they can’t always keep their generators going. When that happens, their monitors and ventilators switch off. Children who could have been saved, die.

In addition to the problems in healthcare, the recurring floods, blackouts and price hikes caused by inflation have made life in Yemen extremely difficult. Cholera, dengue and other infectious diseases are also common. Many Yemenis are unable to afford food, medicine or other essentials.

Muslim Charity Intervention

Muslim Charity is delivering emergency aid on the ground in Yemen right now! Our local partners are advising us that the need is dire and the people of Yemen need our help.

As you read this, we are delivering food, water and emergency supplies in Ta’izz, Yemen. We urgently need emergency food packs, malnutrition kits for the malnourished and innocent children of Yemen, clean water for families and precautionary medicine kits for Covid-19 patients.

Our teams are waiting desperately for the next batch of the above-mentioned items to continue delivering your donated aid in Yemen.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The people of Yemen are on the verge of ascending upon you as if they are clouds. They are the best (people) on Earth.” [Ahmad]

Let’s come together for the people of Yemen, regarding whom the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said,

“The best of men are the men of Yemen, belief is Yemeni, and I am Yemeni.” [Ahmad]

We have been working in Yemen for several years, providing life-saving assistance to thousands of people in urgent need.

In the past year alone, with your support, we have helped over 20,000 people.

We have provided vital, nutritious food packs, helping almost 2,100 people. 4,000 families have received clean and safe drinking water. This means not only are we combating thirst, but we are helping people stay healthier, stronger and safer.

Alongside the supplies, we have also been able to install 28 water tanks in IDP camps as well as establish 4 medical camps to provide primary health care and provide medical assistance and medicine.

This is just a toe in the water though and your help is required urgently. Please donate generously.
