There are many reasons why a Muslim worshipper might be unable to fast during the month of Ramadan; they may be unwell, pregnant or travelling. In these cases they must compensate by feeding a poor person for each day of fasting that they missed throughout the month of Ramadan. This practice is known as Fidya and is calculated according to the average cost of two meals a day.
In the United Kingdom, Fidya is calculated at £5 per day (£150 for the full month of Ramadan).
