New Solar Water Well brings water to 350 families in needy village

Friday, 16th June 2017

Muslim Charity’s Safe Water programme aims to provide clean and safe drinking water to vulnerable communities around the world. Recently, through the generous donations of our UK donors, we have installed a new Solar Water Well in the Pahnwar Village of District Sohbatpur, Balochistan, Pakistan.

Around 350 families reside in this deprived village and the women and children on average spent 5 hours each day to collect water from a well located nearly 2 kilometres away. With the new Solar Water Well installed, the women can spend more time at home catering for their families and children can utilise the time to gain an education.

The “Muhammad Ali” Solar Water Well is dedicated to the memory of the late boxing champion who passed away in June last year and is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures and activists of the last century. The well pumps out 14,000 litres of water per day to cater for the needs of the villagers and pipelines have been laid connecting the Solar Water Well to homes of the villagers to give a sense of privacy and dignity to the families.

Local villagers held an inauguration ceremony filled with joy and enthusiasm expressing gratitude and offering prayers for the generous donors who donated towards this life-changing water resource.

You too can contribute towards a Solar Water Well to help bring new life to needy communities in regions like Asian and Africa.
