THE CAUSE - YEMEN EMERGENCY

5 years of devastating war; now the country could be wiped off the map. Yemen has been facing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis for five years, suffering in a relentless war, devastating famine and the spread of diseases such as cholera. Over 20 million people do not know where their next meal will come from and are facing starvation.

With over 80% of the population – 24 million people – being in urgent need of assistance, the time to act is now. UN reports estimate that 130 children under the age of 5 die each day from hunger and disease.

The UN warns that the coronavirus pandemic could wipe Yemen off the map.

Yemen’s health infrastructure has effectively collapsed and people struggle to access even the most basic healthcare. Yemen only has 10 health workers per 10,000 people, and currently people are being denied treatment due to a lack of medical supplies.

Muslim Charity is delivering emergency aid on the ground in Yemen right now! Our local partners are advising us that the need is dire and the people of Yemen need our help.

As you read this, we are delivering food, water and emergency supplies in Ta’izz, Yemen. We urgently need emergency food packs, malnutrition kits for the malnourished and innocent children of Yemen, clean water for families and precautionary medicine kits for Covid-19 patients.

CURRENT MEASURES IN ENGLAND STATE THAT:

If you are showing coronavirus symptoms, or if you or any of your household are self-isolating, you should stay at home.

You may exercise outdoors as many times each day as you wish.

You can sit and rest outside before, during and after your ride.

You may drive to outdoor publicly accessible open spaces irrespective of distance.

In line with UK Government guidance, those aged over 70 should continue to take care to minimise contact with others outside their household.

While the Government guidance now permits groups of up to six to ride together, Team MC believes that the need to maintain a two-metre distance while riding as a group of six may present practical difficulties and potential risks. For this reason, in some environments we would encourage riders to continue to cycle in smaller groups at present, and only ride in a group of six if they are absolutely sure that it is safe to do so.

We would also like to reiterate to cyclists the need to be mindful of keeping a distance of at least two metres when overtaking other cyclists and from pedestrians who may be walking towards you on paths or on pavements at the side of the road.
