HISTORIC AND INAUGURAL RICKSHAW CHALLENGE IN PAKISTAN COMPLETED BY OUR TEAMMC VOLUNTEERS

Our #TeamMC volunteers just completed the inaugural Fast and Furious Rickshaw challenge in Pakistan.

Teams of drivers navigated their three-wheel rickshaws through the rural villages of South Punjab taking in the sights, sounds and delicious delights on offer.

The four-day adventure saw them travel from Bhakkar via Layyah, Bahawalpur to finally finish at the historic and iconic Derawar Fort.

The participants drove through small rural villages stopping to drink the famous tea made with buffalo milk loaded with sugar and brewed to perfection. They ate local food in small dhabas with other locals and indulged in the hot sweet jalebis on offer.

They also took small detours to visit the famous pottery makers in Multan, artisans and weavers of Bahawalpur, and to taste the sweetness of the sugar cane direct from the fields.

With the beautiful backdrop and dramatic sunset they gave away their beloved rickshaws to their rightful owners. The beneficiaries were carefully selected and given to families that would have the most positive impact.

Further rickshaws have been ordered and will be delivered over the next couple of months to more families so they too can rise to fulfil their dreams and aspirations.

For all the participants it was an emotional and gruelling journey at times. But the struggle enabled them to understand the difficulty of managing and driving a rickshaw for 5-6 hours each day.

South Punjab is not a usual place for tourists but the communities welcomed them with the famous Pakistani hospitality.

If you would like to take part in the rickshaw challenge next year in Pakistan that will take place in November/December 2020, then please register your interest here: www.muslimcharity.org.uk/rickshaw
