MUSLIM CHARITY IS RESPONDING TO THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY

Wednesday, 25th March 2020

Muslim Charity has started working locally in the UK to provide support to the elderly and vulnerable people as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

After launching the Coronavirus Emergency Appeal we have partnered with Delhi-6, a restaurant in South Shields, to provide free cooked meals to the elderly and other vulnerable groups who are suffering as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The restaurant has had numerous calls from local residents who are self-isolating in and around South Shields, mainly the elderly who have no relatives or family members living with them and is delivering the cooked meals to them on a daily basis.

Whilst launching the project, Shah Lalon Amin (Director of Delhi-6 restaurant) commented, “We are part of this community. The elderly people are our elderly folk. Putting business aside, it is important to stand with each other during this testing time. We are delighted to be partnering with Muslim Charity to deliver free meals every single day to the most vulnerable in our society.”

Shah Lalon Amin (Director of Delhi-6 restaurant), Emma Lewell-Buck (MP for South Shields) and Maroof Pirzada (UK Director, Muslim Charity) in South Shields before heading out for free meal deliveries to the elderly in South Shields.

The local MP for South Shields, Emma Lewell-Buck, has been volunteering her time supporting the project to do deliveries and explained, “In communities around the UK at the moment there is a lot of elderly people who are really struggling get food and here at Delhi- 6 partnering up with Muslim Charity we are making sure that those elderly people in South Shields are getting food. And I am out tonight helping to deliver some delicious curry to them.”

The UK Director of Muslim Charity, Maroof Pirzada, commented, “These are unprecedented times. In these testing times it is important that we all come together and unleash the compassion in our characters to support humanity. We have launched our UK Coronavirus Emergency appeal and are supporting restaurants like Delhi-6 in South Shields and are reaching out to other restaurants who want to start similar initiatives in their areas to get in touch with us so that we can overcome the challenges with love and unity.”
