Abdul Hannan Clinches European Gold in Italy, Setting Eyes on World No Gi Championship in Las Vegas

Friday, 3rd November 2023

Last week Abdul Hannan from Muslim Charity’s The Grapple Hub took part in the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship 2023 securing a Gold Medal in Italy. Competing in the Master 1 under 61.5kg (Light featherweight) category, Abdul’s win solidifies his determination, reputation and the hard work he has been putting into the sport and the club.

The Grapple Hub is a new project of Muslim Charity aiming to promote the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and grappling in the heart of the East End, Tower Hamlets, London. It is a safe space for people to enjoy themselves and have fun, and at the same time learn useful life skills and thereby help reduce the rates of delinquency and violent crime in the area.

Hosted by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, IBJJF, the European Tournament is renowned worldwide as one of the most prestigious competitions in the realm of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu . Winning gold there isn’t merely about the accolade; it’s about stamping one’s authority and joining the ranks of some of the greatest names in the sport.

But Abdul’s ambitions don’t stop here. He is already setting his sights higher, aiming to participate in the World No Gi Championship in Las Vegas later this year. With such unwavering determination, it’s clear that Abdul is on a trajectory that could very well see him crowned as a World Champion, inshaAllah.

Beyond his personal ambitions, Abdul harbours a deeper goal. Hailing from Tower Hamlets, he’s keenly aware of the challenges and negative influences that many young people face in the community. By showcasing his dedication, discipline and the rewards that martial arts can bring, he hopes to inspire the youth of Tower Hamlets. The dream of The Grapple Hub is to see them not only take up martial arts but also to aim for the world’s grandest stages.

In conclusion, while Abdul Hannan’s recent victory is certainly commendable, it’s his vision for the future – both his own and that of the youth of Tower Hamlets – that truly stands out. As he continues his journey in the world of martial arts, there’s no doubt that many will be watching, drawing inspiration and perhaps even following in his footsteps. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
